Someone is supremely happy. :) My hubby got me an early Christmas gift..... Yay! I get so worried about dragging my 7D around and damaging it that he got me to Fuji X10 as my everyday street camera! AH! It's wonderful! And it has full manual controls that are easy to access!! Here are some pics of it! Beautimous!

And last but not least, I had the opportunity to design and build the scene and backdrop for the Troy Landry autograph signing here in Natchitoches for the 2011 Christmas Festival! I didn't have much time since it was around Thanksgiving, but I can definitely say I tried my best! Big huge thanks to my Dad for helping with the backdrop frame and my brother for the transportation and help with setting up the scene!! Here are some pics when we were just about finished with my brother, Andrew, and his daughter, Marie! (we put burlap sacks in the piroque and spanish moss....)

Graphic Communications

I'm taking Graph Comm classes. One is required... but the other isn't for my major. I want to learn how to use the programs more efficiently so I knew it would be a good idea to take the class anyway. I've come to really like Graphic Communication even though I don't believe I will be doing much of it later in life. Knowledge is power. :)

Halloween is a special day for me. I decorate my house for the trick or treaters (there seem to be a shortage where I live... in decorated houses, not trick or treaters..) and go all out with costumes and candy. But what I can't do is scare the kids that walk up to my door. I just can't do it. Some are so little and terrified, it would break my heart. So, though I would love to be really gorey, I usually dress up as something cute. The things I do for my community...

Got my first PAYING book job! I'm so excited! And it's for a sweet woman who developed such a sweet story! It wouldn't matter to me if this book didn't bring in any money with sales (though the story is so touching I would hope that it would benefit some children out there) I would still illustrate it for her! I'm tired, disappointed, and out of spunk. Its so hard to motivate yourself without the proper environment and at the moment my studio is filled with boxes of cabinets that I foresee will never be installed. Also lack of support can be depressing. I would say that I needed a vacation, but I really don't want to go anywhere or do anything! I just want to paint!!!!! I want to build a bubble around myself and paint without any interruptions!

I think... no I KNOW I'm impatient. Even when it comes to the things I love to do. I find artists all the time that take so much time in one piece. Days, weeks, months!! But me, I want to finish in hours!! Patience must come with time, I guess. But gahlee, I'm 28!!! Maybe my style is to be sloppy and fast with my painting. Maybe I can make it a "style" at least. :)

And here in Louisiana, that means its dreadfully hot and muggy. So I like to stay inside with the occasional sun while mowing the backyard (Vitamin D!). I have summer classes but they are all online this year being that I needed to get some of my core classes out of the way. This all boils down to free time for painting!!! I'm trying to get a style down. I think I'm still trying to figure out what I like best as far as outlining and coloring. I love my rapidograph pens for outlining because my illustrations are too small for me to outline with a brush. (so I say... I'm really just not that experienced with outlining with a brush...) I've seen many illustrations that are outlined with a colored pencil, but I think I color too dark with my watercolor for the colored pencil to stand out...
ALSO, I've been more and more interested in digitally painting. I have a wacom and photoshop... why not right? So I think I'll be testing out these different methods to find out which one suits me best.

I did this while working at the Natchitoches Art Guild a while back (Fall 2010?) and I like how it turned out. The paper I used was terrible (Cotman 140lb - TERRIBLE) and since it was so cheap I bought two block of them! I think I may still have a block left to use... I use it when I'm just practicing since my GLORIOUS ARCHES watercolor paper is so dang expensive.

I'm going to have to draw smaller. This painting was too big for my scanner so I took a photo and look how horrible it looks!!!
Anyway, I'm feeling a bit ghouly today and needed some creepiness to paint. This looks a lot better as a sketch, unfortunately. I think I may redo it with some different colors to make the ghoul and skeleton stand out.

For whatever reason I start missing Halloween around March every year. I start thinking of what my theme will be that year and I even start watching DIY videos of how to decorate your house..... I think it's because most of my favorite childhood memories revolve around Halloween! I grew up watching horror movies with my older brother and running around the neighborhood playing Detective, but Halloween was always my favorite holiday.

I'm working a lot more with the wet watercolor technique. I always work dryer so that I can control it easier, but I have to admit, this wet technique is so much fun! I have better luck with portraits than I do with landscapes though...

I love my art desk. Well art Place. It's just the corner of our computer room, but I like to think of the entire room as my studio. :)

I'm working on some pieces for the Art Guild hanging which will be the 28th. The best things to hang are southern inspired scenes. So I picked this picture from my book of photography of Louisiana. I also have a frame for it that I got in Hot Springs, AR! It's weird because I got two of them on sale and when I got home, nothing fit in them! I measured and they were something like 11.5 x 15.75!!! So I figured a watercolor would be best in it since I can cut down the paper to any size easily.

Here's something I've been working on in Painting III: Watercolor. I'm not to use any outlines as far as inking or colored pencil. It's hard for me. I think I'll work on this for a while. I like the composition, but I think the color is off and I need more contrast.

I took some pictures of my friend's nephew the other day. He is soooo adorable!
I've been an active, local photographer for about five years now and I'm trying to justify purchasing the Canon 5d Mark II. It's a huge chunk of money! BUT it also produces awesome images! My main gripe with the camera I have now (Canon 40D) is that I'm not able to use a high ISO without getting a lot of noise. And my favorite photos are dim light photos and night time photography.
Ah, well.... all in due time...

This is an idea I had not too long ago. I sketched it out, then never had time to work on it! I did this digitally, but I'm thinking I might make it more realistic and paint it with oil. I love oil, but only use it with my serious ideas since I tend to get a little obsessed.... :) When I start it, I'll post pictures.

This was for practice. I'm not use to drawing entire scenes. I usually just draw a character or two then wash out the background or put in a pattern... I feel practicing doing various things gets me closer to being a real illustrator and getting me book work! But when? I don't know when to start pursue publishers. I'm thinking I should have my own website first... like an online portfolio, not like this blog. But as far as skill-wise, I feel I'm ready. I'll take on any book that comes my way. :)

Not the vacation... not the freedom... just the weather. It's so dang hot here!! I step outside and immediately start sweating! Not very attractive. Especially when you're in a Photography II class making pinhole cameras and running in and out taking pinhole pictures.

I think I need to move. To Alaska.
